Empathy Education in Limerick Regeneration Primary Schools
In Spring, in partnership with Mary Immaculate Colleges Embracing Diversity, Nurturing Integration, Learning for Life Project we ran 24 workshops for 119 children in four Limerick City DEIS primary schools, CBS (Scoil Iosagain) Sexton Street, Our Lady of Lourdes Rosbrien, Presentation Primary Sexton Street and St. Johns girls and infant boys.
This was a new pilot project that adapted the Story Exchange model for younger participants with an aim to teach empathy and social connection skills in the classroom.
Generously funded by Social Intervention Fund, (Limerick County Council & Department of Housing Planning and Local Government). 119 incredible young people took part in workshops that focused on listening, connection, storytelling and literacy skills.
Facilitated by Ann Blake and Shane Hickey O’Mara.
“The programme has been fantastic, I can really start to see the girls opening up and they are all extremely supportive of one another, even after the last session when Shane left the emotions were still running high, the girls kept checking in with each other and ensuring everyone was supported. It was great to see.”
