About the Story Exchange

The Story Exchange is an evidence-based methodology, which teaches young people social and emotional skills and improves well-being. The Story Exchange increases peer support and instills a sense of resilience and belonging by reducing feelings of isolation.

Getting young people to share stories breaks down barriers, builds trust and reinforces the idea that they are not alone. The Story Exchange Programme can be delivered over 5 weeks. Through circle-work students will develop oral literacy skills, creativity skills, deep listening skills, public speaking/ storytelling skills and social and emotional learning skills.

Testimonials

“The Story Exchange has enabled my students to broaden their horizons”

“I trained as a Story Exchange Facilitator in 2018 and have found it so beneficial to my students. The Story Exchange has enabled my students to broaden their horizons, the focus on creating real world connections is invaluable in developing emotional intelligence among a generation that sometimes struggles with this. Getting young people to tell stories about their lives is a force for social change.”

Paula O’Sullivan – Secondary School English Teacher at Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh

“a powerful facilitation tool which allows young people to feel heard and validated”

“I really wanted to train as a Narrative 4 facilitator because I felt it would be a very effective tool, particularly when working with some hard-to-reach young people that Gaisce engages with across the country. I did my training in 2019, and have since run a number of story exchanges. It is a powerful facilitation tool which allows young people to feel heard and validated.”

Niall Barrett, Development Officer at Gaisce- The President’s Award.
